This week I left home on a surprise visit to hubby's work at the time little miss three and little miss 18 months would normally be going down for a nap. As we drove away from home I questioned what I was thinking, but kept driving anyway. The girls were happy, and didn’t look one bit sleepy when they normally would.
As I drove I looked out at the road before me, to the hills and the dark trees standing strong against a blue and stretched-cloud sky. And that’s when I saw it. The moon. Three quarter’s full, high in the sky and standing bright and proud, as though it was exactly where it was meant to be at this very moment.
I pointed out the moon to miss three: “But mummy, the moon is meant to be asleep! Silly moon. It forgot to go to sleep?”
“The moon must be staying up when it normally sleeps. Just like us, we’re normally asleep now. Today’s the moon’s doing something different. Mixing things up a bit...”
Miss three still thought the moon was "being a little silly".
She kept her eyes fixed on the moon. And it followed us for the whole thirty-minute drive away. As if to say, you’re right where you're meant to be at this very moment too. And offering a reminder that what I see, experience and take in is exactly what I’m meant to know and learn and notice... at any given time.
And it was kind of refreshing to throw routine out the window for the day. To see the look of love and surprise on hubby's face as his girls chased each other into his arms.
And to spot the moon in the day-time sky felt a bit like seeing a rainbow. Full of wonder, amazement and perfect timing. And that feeling that you’re witnessing something special {life} for the first time.
xx
{Joining in with the community at 52 Weeks of Grateful. I'm grateful for the lessons ~ big and small ~ life has been throwing at me lately. Oh, and in case you're wondering, there's definitely no moon in that image! But it is one of my favourite sky images I've taken. Elisa xx}
What do you see when you look to the sky? What draws you in most – the moon, a rainbow, sunshine or clouds dotting a bright blue sky? And are you feeling grateful? xx
I love beautiful sunsets.. I could spend hours looking at the sun setting down and thinking that at the same time it's rising in Italy :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteMy little boy pointed out the day-time moon to me this week, I think it is magical the way you've described it - and I have definitely felt right where I am meant to be this week (and yes, grateful) xx
ReplyDeleteMust admit I don't look at the sky often. But I like to see stars shining about 9pm - that is generally when I am washing the dishes so a 'captive' audience!
ReplyDeleteAlways feeling grateful :) We too saw the moon in the sky during the day here too this week. Love that.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at the sky, and my photos can attest to that, I am always taking pics of the sky...rainbows, clouds, the moon, the stars, a clear blue sky, it doesn't matter, they all amaze me.
That is beautiful, I love how life gives those little signs that everything is where it's supposed to be. Truly magical. x
ReplyDeletei am always looking at the sky - funny enough i was obsessed with the daytime moon this week and had intended to try to capture it with my camera... but was too distracted being in the moment (which actually makes me happy)
ReplyDeletelove your post elissa - i bet hubby was over the moon ; )
How lovely. Sometimes it's worth it to break out of routine for a bit, sometimes magic happens x
ReplyDeleteMy kids get so excited when they see the moon in the day, which has been a lot the last couple of weeks. Love your take on it, such lovely words as always.
ReplyDeleteWe've had the silly moon conversation, too :) I have to say it there is a good side to having a baby that never sleeps - it's that I don't need to worry about routine. There, I just found something to be grateful about.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words Elisa. Sometimes a change in routine is as good as routine itself isnt it?!
ReplyDeleteLovely post Elisa. The week before I was on a sailing boat, on Anzac day, and on return to the mooring my daughter was allowed to steer the boat. I took photos in the gentle twilight. It was so beautiful - still, calm and colorful in that muted dusk way. We got off the boat and began to walk home along an esplanade. Then we saw it - the moon, almost bursting like it was about to birth. It was simply stunning, but it threw me because the whole time on the boat I never saw it. It reminded me to be a little more aware of what is happening around me at a subtler level.
ReplyDeleteOh such a lovely post. I can picture them running into his arms. Such love and joy! Sometimes life is more important than routine eh.
ReplyDeleteI love it when the world is a little topsy turvy. It's such a great opportunity to show our kids that weird things can happen, but everything is still okay. In fact, something different is rather fun! x
ReplyDeleteI love how you capture images of the sky..so expansive. x
