So to combat this dreary state, we all take our shoes off.
And we head outside.
Me and Grace and Eve.
The three of us lie barefoot in the grass.
And when we step outside it's like a little breeze of calm surrounds us, and we all slow down. There's no rushing. There's nothing to be busy about. It's just the three of us. And the feel of the lush grass, the smell of the crisp grass, the sight of the green grass. It's good for all of us, but if I'm honest, this time out to reconnect, it's a little more for me than it is for them.
I used to do this when I was having a busy day in the office. Head to a park, plant my feet into the grass, sit, stop, stare into nothingness and be still. And I'd be silent for a change.
For some reason barefoot-in-the-grass just works for me. It's a way to ground myself. It creates a space for me to reconnect. A little spot of time-out in a little spot of nature. It's meditation with a toddler and baby in tow.
And best of all, when I'm here with Grace & Eve the most pressing thing I have to do is breathe.

Do you head into nature to reconnect on a frazzled day? What works for you?
Always. Whenever life is getting inside me too much, I retreat to nature and the first thing to go are my shoes! x
ReplyDeleteI love these photos and the whole post actually! There is nothing than being barefoot in such lovely green grass with your kids.
