Pressing pause

The past month I've done more rushing than I thought possible.

But this week I pressed pause on the chaos I was creating.

I stopped to breathe, and stopped to drink my tea while it was hot.

I walked slowly {and I still arrived at my destination}.

I took a detour home via the beach to watch the waves {and take in the wide-eyed expression on a little miss two's face}.

I gazed at my sleeping baby, felt the rhythm of her breath and blew her kisses.

I put everything on hold to listen to the little girl in my life's voice {listening with my ears and my eyes, listening with my heart}.

I'm working on less rushing each day, even though I know there will always be some form of busy bubbling about {in the background}.

But when I fill my day with moments of calm {mindfulness, grace and love}, scattered as these moments may be the energy of rushing seems to fade and the sun shines that bit brighter on my day.

What are you grateful for this week?

  1. The busy, busy, busy is such an easy pattern/trap to fall into, isn't it?
Good on you for pressing pause - something I need to do more of.

  3. Choosing to stop the rush is so powerful! It was my son's first day at school after school holidays last week and I had forgotten how to time things so that we get everywhere on time without rushing. Well, my kids reminded me very quickly that they just won't have the rushing bit. And once you stop rushing you actually get there quicker I find.

  5. You have such a beautiful way of expressing what's important Elisa. Rushing has been a theme of mine too - it always is I guess as I'm a full time working mum. My duaghter calls it my 58 heads, and I just wish that there was something I could do to slow it all down. The speed of which my daughter is growing astounds me, fills me with great satisfaction - and saddens me too. These are the beautiful years. Perhaps, like you have stated, it's about being aware of it. Just taking time to breathe. I know when i do that i relax and become myself again, instead of the 58 headed mad mum♥

  6. It has to be done. Rushing around is just never going to work when we have little kids with us, or even bigger ones as I am now finding. Accept, accept, mine are teaching me something with their slowness.
